JIMI
HENDRIX
Born in Seattle in 1942, Jimi
Hendrix is widely considered to be the greatest and most influential rock
guitarist of all time – even though he released just three studio albums
before his tragic death in 1970 at just 27 years old. A psychedelic-blues-rock
genius influenced by the blues masters, Jimi Hendrix made his initial
breakthrough in the UK in 1967 with the single Hey
Joe, under the guidance of The Animals’ bass player Chas Chandler (1938
– 1996). It was his astonishing, ear-shredding performance at Woodstock in
1969 that sealed his reputation, but he was dead from a barbiturates overdose
just a few months later. My Jimi Hendrix pop art painting is based on a David
King photograph originally used for the sleeve of Electric
Ladyland: Part 2 (when prudish shops refused to stock the double disc
version with the infamous nudes sleeve), and later for the Experience Hendrix greatest hits collection.
Jimi
Hendrix Trivia: Jimi Hendrix used to own
a pet monkey called Charlie Chan!
